Mustion Manor is one of Finland’s most significant manors, filled with fascinating stories, grandeur, and the splendor of times past. Following in the footsteps of kings and tsars, you can step back in time and experience this unique gem of tourism yourself!
Located in Western Uusimaa, in Raasepori, Mustion Linna is just an hour’s drive from Helsinki. Even when you arrive in the area, it feels as though you’ve entered another world – the manor is surrounded by a charming English-style garden, with paths, bridges, and statues guiding you on a time-travel journey from the 1700s to the present day. The main building, completed between 1783 and 1792 by Magnus Linder II, is the largest non-religious wooden building in Finland. Its architecture reflects the transition from Rococo to Neoclassicism, while the interior is entirely Gustavian – elegant, timeless, and full of details that tell the story of times gone by.
On a guided tour, you can admire the manor’s unique parquet floors, such as the one made from four different types of wood in the patron’s study. One of the highlights of the visit is the legendary "King's Room," where King Gustav III and Tsars Alexander I and Alexander II once rested. In the early 20th century, the manor flourished under Hjalmar Linder’s era. He owned a vast area of land, totaling 64,000 hectares, and bought one of Finland’s first cars in 1902. Mustion Linna welcomed famous visitors such as Jean Sibelius and Louis Sparre, and the manor became a cultural hub.
The stories of Mustio Manor can only be explored with a guide. During the manor tours, history comes alive, and you’ll learn about both the glorious years and the tragic fates. These tours offer a unique opportunity to dive into the world of the past and hear about the manor’s life through the ages.
The English-style garden surrounding the manor is one of Finland’s largest private parks. It offers visitors peace and beauty year-round – romantic bridges, a gazebo, statues, and a unique floating lily pond path. Originally built in Baroque style in 1787, the park was redesigned at the end of the 19th century by Fridolf Linder, who planted exotic plants from all over the world.
Magnus Linder bought back his childhood home in 1985 and began business at Mustio Manor. Today, Mustio Manor is privately owned by the Linder family and the main building is owned by Stiftelsen för bevarande av Svartå Slott, a foundation to preserve Mustio Manor for future generations. The manor is not operated for profit, and all proceeds go toward maintaining, restoring, and developing the area. When you visit Mustio Manor, you are also helping to preserve a unique cultural heritage – thank you for supporting this historically valuable site!
A Warm Welcome to Experience the Magic of Mustio Manor!
